H31R Headspace With Maassai and JWords

It’s 2024, and the underground music scene still has me in a chokehold. One of the only ways I can get my fix is through artists like Maassai and JWords, a rapper and producer duo both Brooklyn based. I’ve been watching and listening to these artists for a couple of years, and their latest album lived up to the hype.

Headspace is a twenty-five minute album that felt like an hour (in a good way). This is the duo’s second joint album and I would describe it as electronic, techno hip-hop, like a late nineties cool that could have been in the Matrix (1999) soundtrack. Individually I enjoy their work as well, so when H31R releases it is a refreshing sound in today’s rotation. This is what I like to call a pop my shit album. While flexing their muscles as artists I could see an advancement in Maassai’s wordplay as well as JWords’s production through their forward experimentation compared to their previous work. I’m looking forward to seeing the progression of these two.
