Dedicated to my beautiful angelic grandmother, Elizabeth Merriweather-Ward. September 2, 1935- July 25, 2018

I do not ask for cloudless skies,
A life that’s free from tears and sighs.
Just give me grandmas cheek to kiss,
And anxious moments will turn to bliss
Oh Lord, I do not ask for much,
To be blessed with guardian angels, or youth, or such.
But as I looked into her wide eyes
I thank God for gifting us with someone so loving and wise
My eyes may water because her light will shine from a distance,
And I might find myself living for yesterday and dreading tomorrow
But I will smile because in my heart she still lives
Honoring her legacy as long as the sun has light to give
Here lies the outcry and here lies the laughter,
waiting to witness her ethereal beauty again in the hereafter
I will not bend my back and I will not drop my head
I will put a rod in my spine and be strong-willed like grandma instead
